DIY iPod stand

So, you've bought a brand-new iPod, opened the box and couldn't find the dock? What are you going to do? Just leave it on your desk to get scratched? You could go shell out for a third-party stand, but I imagine you'd rather spend that hard-earned cash on music to fill your 'pod.

Or, you could make a functional and damn sexy stand yourself. I've drawn up a template for the one you see in the photos above, which you can print out, stick on some card, cut it out, decorate it how you like (I glued an iPod ad from a magazine on) or leave it nude. Download it in pdf format (500k). It's released under a Creative Commons licence, so if you can improve it, go for it! Full licence details here.

Make sure you use some pretty heavy card. The stand should work with all models of iPod with a dock connector, including the iPod mini, i believe. It won't stand up very well if the dock cable isn't plugged in. If you use it and like it, or even if you hate it, let me know!

My good friend Campbell has designed an awesome image for the iPod stand called "iPods are Scary", you can check the design here, then download the template here (2.4mb pdf). It's released under a Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs CC licence.

I've changed the template slightly, there's now a couple of flaps at the back you can sticky-tape, glue or staple together, for extra rigidity. If you don't like them, you can just cut them off.
