Thank You and Happy Thanksgiving

Wednesday, November 26. 2008
Just a quick one, I wanted to share a couple of nice mentions of JAJAH with you and wanted to thank you, we highly appreciate your support and feedback through blogs, , and . It is great to hear that you enjoy our services for staying in touch with friends, family and business partners abroad or even long-distance, recognizing the convenience factor of simply using your existing mobile phone or landline without having to install anything or being stuck in front of your computer.

Sasha moved from the US to Hungary a little while ago and just :
"You can . Call that local number from your phone (land or mobile), and it will charge you for the call. You can use it from anywhere! - Being able to call any number as a local # is a HUGE plus. I know tons of people here who would love to be able to call home for cheap, from their cell phone, especially. And with this feature, this is more than possible - it’s easy. The mobility of it makes a great option for travelers, as well as people that want to call mobiles in other countries in Europe, which is super super expensive. Maybe give Barack Obama a call, whomever he is.

:
"Thanking GOD for Jajah.com"

This is a nice selection of by Kevin C. Tofel at WebWorkerDaily:

"JAJAH offers a web-client at that you can bookmark on your iPhone and use for low-cost calls. The web page offers a dialpad for numeric entry, but you can also maintain an contact list on your JAJAH account, making for quick calls for as little as $0.029 cents per minute. Two things make JAJAH stand out from the other services. First, the can often be very reasonable, making this a contender if you have clients across borders. Second, only the 'middle' part of the call is done over the Internet. When you make a JAJAH call, the service calls you back on your handset and then connects your call recipient through their handset. For all intents: each of you is on your phone, but the voice traffic is routed over the oft less-expensive web. As a result, our test calls were very high quality."

A mention in ReadWriteWeb's by Richard MacManus.

:
"I can't believe how much money I have saved on my phone bill with Jajah"

And David Montgomery writes about .

Let us know about your feedback and questions,

Other than that we are very happy about all the progress going on behind the scenes and we will have more to announce soon over here.

Have a great or just a great weekend if you live outside of the US :-)

VoIP on the T-Mobile G1 Google Android Phone

Thursday, November 6. 2008
called G1. It's a great mobile phone with a ton of features, a full keyboard, a big touchscreen and a rising number of great applications. I got one the day it was launched and I have to say that I am very impressed, so if you don't have an iPhone yet and consider a new phone then I can absolutely recommend the new G1.

Even if I don't like to refer to JAJAH as a VoIP provider it is what we provide through our backend infrastructure and you can use JAJAH with your G1. JAJAH combines the best of two worlds: premium voice quality of a standard land line or cell phone and the cost savings of Internet telephony. It is the easiest way to make ultra-low cost long-distance and international phone calls right of your mobile phone, on any network and wherever you are.

There are two ways how to benefit from JAJAH with your G1 and frankly any other mobile phone:

1) : You simply point your mobile browser to type in the number you want to call or select the number in your JAJAH address book. JAJAH will initiate the call and connects you to the desired number anywhere in the world for just a few cents per minute (see our detailed rates here). Phone-to-phone and no WiFi or broadband connection required.

2) : You provide us the long-distance or international number that you call more frequently and we give you a number local to you to call instead. So you get a local number for each of your international or long-distance contacts and call them directly from your landline or cell phone. You can save the numbers to your phone and never dial long-distance again!

Example: I live in San Francisco and want to call my brother in Adelaide, Australia. I would usually dial the Australian number and pay dollars per minute, now I dial the unique local San Francisco number that JAJAH provided to me and is saved in my cell phone for just 3 cents per minute and it rings my brother's phone at the other side of the world.

You simply dial local and talk global (or long-distance)!

So enjoy the cost savings of Internet telephony while using your regular phone (landline or mobile/G1), there are no monthly and no connection fees and sign up is free. !

A Closer Look: JAJAH by PM Network

Thursday, September 4. 2008
Chen just forwarded me a from the current issue (Sep 2008) of PM Network by Sarah Fister Gale. is a monthly publication by the . The article describes how JAJAH has grown over the years and what steps haven been taken and what tools have been used from a project management perspective.
"Daniel Mattes and Roman Scharf were fed up with their costly phone bills. Figuring they weren't alone, they decided to launch a web-based telephony service. But coming up with the big idea was just the beginning. The two relied on project management to help speed the transition from a glimmer of an idea to a flourishing company in only three years. Today, Jajah boasts 100 employees and more than 10 million consumers in 200 locales around the world. And the upstart recently signed a deal with Yahoo! to manage the internet telephone functions of the IT giant's instant messaging program."

"Once you have methodical organization and the entire company focuses on the relevant parts of a specific project, things work much faster" Chen Arazi, Director of Engineering Services, adds. "Because Jajah's executive management involves its teams in the decision-making process, it gives everyone a sense of ownership and responsibility for the results of the projects." "Good project management is the machine behind a successful company" Daniel Mattes, JAJAH Co-founder, says. "Once it's in place, it doesn't matter if you add 100 employees or 1,000, because you have methods and systems there to make it work."

Thank you Sarah for the opportunity and the great article!

Language Barrier Comes Crashing Down

Monday, August 11. 2008
The Tower of Babel is an ancient town, which, according to the Bible, came to represent the unity of humanity, with everyone speaking a single language.

Unfortunately, the reality of today is there is no such place, and no such unified language. Billions are cut off from other people and places on the globe, blocked by the language barrier.

Until now.

We are delighted to announce the release of our latest world-changing service, aptly named JAJAH Babel. It's the only free, phone translation service where you simply ring a number, speak in English and hear your message back in another language.

We've launched Babel with English-Chinese / Chinese-English given the current needs of the thousands of tourists in Beijing, but this is just the beginning. More languages and language-barrier busting services will follow soon.

JAJAH followers will know we are committed to bringing down the barriers to global communication. We started with the financial barrier, and bought down the cost. Then there was an access barrier, so we made our service available to everyone, regardless of location, device or network. So the only remaining barrier really was language, and now we have this nailed too.
"Making sure that you are chatting politely in Mandarin rather than insulting your companion is a skill that many people will struggle with this summer," explains JAJAH Co-founder Daniel Mattes. "This is why we’ve developed JAJAH.BABEL - to remove the language barrier and make communication easier for everyone visiting China this summer."

How does JAJAH.Babel work?

From English to Chinese or in reverse:

  • Dial JAJAH.Babel from any phone. Local access numbers:
    U.S.: +1.718.513.2969
    China: +86.21.5129.4632
  • Choose which language you want your message translated into (either English to Chinese or Chinese to English)
  • Say your message and press #
  • You will be able to confirm that your message was properly understood by the system.
  • The message will automatically be played back in Chinese. If you wish, simply hand your phone to the other person or put the phone on loudspeaker so they hear the message.
  • The other person can then record a message in Chinese, following the steps above, and you will hear their message in English.

This free service is available from any phone, without restrictions. For more information, visit www.jajahbabel.com.

JAJAH On Top At Alltop

Tuesday, July 29. 2008
We are a big fan of and are always interested in what our ever-busy friend is up to. In March 2008 Guy Kawasaki, Will Mayall and Kathryn Henkens launched . It’s a great summary of the top news and views on any topic, from politics to pets, ADHD to yoga, all collected neatly on a single page. The pages follow a simple format – URL is topic.alltop.com (e.g. ) and all the main news sources are there. There is a surprising and impressive range of sources, from the usual suspects to the insiders.
"A good metaphor is that Alltop is an 'online magazine rack' that displays the news from the top publications and blogs. Our goal is to satisfy the information needs of the 99% of Internet users who will never use an RSS feed reader or create a custom page." says

You can think of an Alltop site as a 'digital magazine rack' of the Internet. To be clear, Alltop sites are starting points—they are not destinations per se. The bottom line is that we are trying to enhance your online reading by both displaying stories from the sites that you’re already visiting and helping you discover sites that you didn’t know existed. In other words, our goal is the 'cessation of Internet stagnation' by providing “aggregation without aggravation.”

is inspired by our friend 's (who also designed the interface of our popular ).

Of course the topic that caught our eye was the newly launched with a very familiar looking blog listed high up on the top of AllTop. We are honored to be one of the selected sources keeping you up-to-date with what's going on in and around IP telephony companies and services along with a bunch of friends including , , , , , , , and others.

JAJAH Redefines the SMB and Enterprise Telephony Market

Saturday, July 19. 2008
Things are really on a roll over here these days. Launching and many more breakthroughs to come. But the big news today is JAJAH setting its sites and shaking up the business telecoms market.

JAJAH has a great track record of market impact (we think 10 million consumer customers and a successful JAJAH Managed Services platform supporting 50 million more users are pretty good proof points) and we’re now delighted to unveil the .

We think America’s 6.3 million small and medium business should get the same services as the big guys – cheaper calls, better productivity tools, simple IP-based telephony. But they simply haven’t been able to afford the expensive hardware and telephony infrastructure. With JAJAH the suite of services gives every small and medium business the ability to IP-enable their existing telephone systems and make VoIP calls to over 200 countries without any additional investment.
"The days of investing in PBXs from Nokia Siemens or installing expensive Cisco IP switches are long passed,” said JAJAH Co-Founder Roman Scharf. “Now every company in America can instantly switch its entire telephony infrastructure onto IP, delivering significant cost savings with zero start up cost. Companies of all types and sizes are utilizing the JAJAH SMB Solution Suite, from local Greek restaurants through to Logitech."

The SMB Solution Suite is so much more than just cost-efficient telephony though. The range of value added services give every small and medium business the tools for growth, whether in the US or around the world.

The JAJAH SMB Solution Suite gives every employee access to:

· All devices: make or receive calls via mobile, landline and even softphone (PC-based telephone), with specific plug-ins for Blackberry and Windows Mobile phones available. Pre-paid and analog-only phones will also be supported.

· Productivity Tools: a suite of Productivity Tools give the ability to embed telephony within Office Automation Tools, including support for Google Enterprise Apps and Microsoft Office. Features also include centralized address book, database and directory lookup services.

· Presence: flexibility to choose which phone to use to answer a call. At the touch of a button, choose whether to accept an inbound call on mobile, landline or softphone, or even to divert the call to a voice mail, which will be converted to text and delivered as an email into the employees inbox. Employees can specify their location and availability, while the network will also make intelligent routing decisions based on last-call and office hours.

· Dial Plan & Portability: no need to change numbers as the JAJAH system fully supports number portability. The JAJAH SMB Suite also offers sophisticated dial-plans, call monitoring and limit-setting amongst other budget management tools.

· Unified Communication & Voice 2.0: Support for visual Voicemail (where voicemail is converted to text), universal messaging, SMS, conference calls, scheduled calls, call logging, and address book synchronization.

· IP-Backbone: For the first time, access to a global telephony backbone will be built in, with all calls routed over JAJAH’s award-winning IP-telephony backbone. This not only reduces calls costs, but increases voice quality.

Gizmo5 jumps onto the JAJAH platform

Thursday, June 26. 2008
Over the past two years we have built a robust global IP-telecommunications platform that serves our 10 million plus JAJAH users and an increasing number of partner services like the recently announced and now the widely used mobile and computer-based VoIP service .

Gizmo5 has chosen JAJAH as the platform for its IP-telephony services as well as additional tailored services including customer care and billing.

Like Yahoo! and MailVision, Gizmo5 has turned to us to manage its back end, so they can focus on continuing to develop awesome software, and take their lovely computer and mobile phone based softphone client all round the world.

With more than 6 million people already using Gizmo5, this adds a stack more users onto the JAJAH network, and now that they are leveraging the power of the JAJAH back end, no doubt Gizmo5 will add plenty more.
"The JAJAH platform was chosen because of the simplicity of implementation, reliability and the ability to expand our software globally," said Gizmo5 President, Jason Droege "With Gizmo5 leveraging the JAJAH platform, we have the ability to break into the huge untapped market for VoIP. Because this partnership brings together simple telephony, innovation and quality for the masses, we aim to reach the ninety percent of Internet users who don’t currently use VoIP."

The softphone market is an exciting space, poised for significant growth as competition heats up and global unified communications take hold. A recent Frost & Sullivan report forecast that softphone calls will represent 20 percent of IP-telephone calls by 2014. Softphone sales rose to 416,000 units, worth $18.9 million in 2007, a 30 percent increase in dollar terms over the previous year.

With quality becoming an issue for people using softphones, any company on the JAJAH platform has a great opportunity to stand out from the crowd and capture a good slice of this growing market.
