'The Witcher: Rise of the White Wolf' Console Debut Trailer

Posted by Jeffrey Kanjanapangka - Tuesday, December 02, 2008 12:23 PM

The Witcher: Rise of the White Wolf has been officially announced by developer CD Projekt as a console-enhanced adaptation coming to the PS3 and Xbox 360 next fall. Proclaimed as the "ultimate console RPG", fans of the original PC game looking for a 2nd go-around on a console and the uninitiated, console-only gamers can all look forward to a superior experience featuring:

  • New visuals "completely rebuilt pixel by pixel" for consoles running on an entirely new engine
  • new animations and
  • "a completely new combat system"

"We're not about to dumb down our games for anyone. We want to give players the best games, regardless of platform," added CD Projekt co-founder Michal Kicinski. "Anyone concerned that we're going to somehow offer a shallow RPG or abandon the PC platform simply because we're working on consoles can stop worrying."

It looks like the main beneficiaries are to console gamers who've never touched the series. The question posed to the PC gamers out there who have or haven't played this well-received fantasy action-RPG...  does it pique your interest even with the The Witcher: Enhanced Edition and original game itself already available and what would you say to console-only gamers who've never experienced this franchise?

'Flight of the Conchords' Hits Online Early

Posted by Brian Leahy - Tuesday, December 02, 2008 11:49 AM

Season 2 of HBO's hilarious show, Flight of the Conchords, will be premiering in January 2009... unless you utilize the power of the internet.

The first episode of the second season will hit the web on December 17, 2008 at 12PM EST and be viewable for free, but only for four days exclusively on FunnyOrDie.com.

Well, until it hits torrent sites.

Now, while we wait a grueling 15 days, we will discuss our favorite songs from the first season. My favorite is clearly "Business Time". Engage.

'PlayStation Home' Interview Talks Potential, Integration

Posted by Brian Leahy - Tuesday, December 02, 2008 11:40 AM

PlayStation Home director Jack Buser gave an interview with Gamasutra about the upcoming virtual world and its an interesting read with a few great tidbits hidden within.

The service, which will be released as a public beta before the end of 2008, is the topic of much discussion on the internet.

Jacks talks about the service, "which is free to use. It doesn't cost anything more. For the users who want to stand out there will be microtransactions; you'll be able to buy virtual items or even premium virtual spaces." Are you going to buy extra clothes, furniture, or spaces? If so, what do you think of Microsoft's plan to do basically the same thing with Avatars and clothing?

Jack also sees home as a "neutral place" where can get to know somebody before inviting them onto your friends list.

Nokia Unleashes The N97 Multimedia Phone

Posted by Raymond Padilla - Tuesday, December 02, 2008 11:39 AM

Nokia unveiled its latest flagship phone at its annual Nokia World event in Barcelona. Ladies and gentleman, say hello to the N97! A major update to the N95 (as well as the incrementally upgraded N96), the N97 is a multimedia device with a ton of features. According to Engadget Mobile:

"The N97 packs a 3.5-inch, 640 x 360 pixel (that's a 16:9 aspect ratio) resistive touchscreen display with tactile feedback and QWERTY keyboard into this sliding communicator with an 'always open' window to favorite internet or social networking sites. Nokia calls it the 'world's most advanced mobile computer.' To back up the claim they've dropped in HSDPA, WiFi, and Bluetooth radios, A-GPS, a 3.5-mm headjack, 32GB of onboard memory with microSD expansion (for up to 48GB total capacity), and a battery capable of up to 1.5 days of continuous audio playback or 4.5-hours video. 5 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss glass and 'DVD quality' video capture at 30fps, too."

The phone is gorgeous and its capabilities are extensive. However, going up against Steve Jobs wizardry (nobody gets people to care about plastic and silicon more than Jobs), RIM's dominance in the business world (BlackBerry), and Google's nerd love is no easy task. That said, Nokia is the dominant name in mobile phones (in every country that's not America) and the Symbian S60 platform is much more mature than the Android and iPhone operating systems.

Weekly Holiday Xbox LIVE Marketplace Sale Kicks off With 'Halo 3' Legendary Maps

Posted by Brian Leahy - Tuesday, December 02, 2008 11:05 AM

Throughout the month of December, Microsoft will unleash a weekly deal on content from the Xbox LIVE Marketplace. First up is the Halo 3 Legendary Map Pack, which will sell for 400 MS Points (down from 600).

The sale runs for one week only.

It does require Xbox LIVE Gold, but would you really be buying additional multiplayer maps for Halo 3 if you didn't have access to the multiplayer? I don't think so.

Tune in next week for another deal from Microsoft.

Did you already buy the map pack? Plan on picking it up now? I kind of feel like everyone that was going to buy the pack has already done so...

World's Oldest Cannabis Found

Posted by Sinden Lee - Tuesday, December 02, 2008 10:46 AM

Researchers have found the oldest reserve of marijuana in an isolated area of China.

It was found in a tomb, dating back 2,700 years. In the Journal of Experimental Botany, researchers say it was definitely "cultivated for psychoactive purposes," as opposed to fiber for clothes or food.

789 grams of cannabis was found. The cannabis was buried along with a "light-haired, blue-eyed Caucasian man, likely a shaman of the Gushi culture, in Turpan in northwestern China."
