I've talked to people that were in his audience before. It's all camera tricks. When you're actually there it isn't magical at all. The people who act surprised are doing just that, "Acting".

Even if torso man were a midget it doesn't explain how when "reattached to the legs" (Which were long and clearly not hiding some stilts using midget) he was able to walk and hop freely and naturally.
